Stephanie at a pace of 2 minutes 15 seconds per lap and
Tina at a pace of 2 minutes 30 seconds per lap.
How far has Rachel run when Stephanie first catches up to Tina?

Here is a better, more accurate way to do this problem, using meters/min

Change 2 min 15 sec to 2.25 min, and 2 min 30 sec to 2.5 min
:
Find their speeds in meter/min
R = 400/2 = 200 m/min
S = 400/2.25 = 177.8 m/min
T = 400/2.5 = 160 m/min
:
When S catches up to (laps) T, she has run exactly 400 m further than T
Let t = time for this to occur, write a distance equation; dist = speed * time
:
S's dist = T's dist + 400m
177.8t = 160t + 400
177.8t - 160t = 400
17.8t = 400
t = 400/17.8
t = 22.5 min for S to catch up with T
How far will R run in 22.5 sec at 200 m/min
22.5 * 200 = 4500 meters
