Using the following form to find the equation of the line with an x-intercept of (-5/6,0) and a y-intercept of (0,-7/3)
:
Using the slope/intercept form: y = mx + b
Using the y intercept 0,-7/3: then y = mx - (7/3)
:
Using the x intercept -5/6, 0; find m:
(-5/6)m - (7/3) = 0
(-5/6m) = +(7/3)
m = (7/3)/(-5/6)
Which is:
m = (7/3)*(-6/5)
m = -42/15 = -14/5
:
The equation: y = x -

:
The intercept form of the equation of a line with intercepts at (a,0) and (0,b) is x/a+ y/b=1, a not equal to 0, b not equal to 0.
:
Put in the y = mx + b form
x/a + y/b = 1
y/b = -x/a + 1; subtracted x/a from both sides
y = -bx/a + b; multiply both sides by b
