if the line is parallel to another line, then it has a slope that is the same as the slope of the other line.
if the line is perpendicular to another line, then it has a slope that is a negative reciprocal of the slope of the other line.
the slope of line p is equal to -1/4.
the slope of a line parallel to line p will be equal to -1/4.
the y-intercept has to be different.
otherwise the lines will be identical.
identical lines look like the same line on the graph.
the slope of a line perpendicular to line p will be equal to 4.
the negative of -1/4 is 1/4.
the reciprocal of 1/4 is 4.
here's 3 lines.
2 of them are parallel.
the third is perpendicular.
the first line is y = -1/4*x + 5
the second line is y = -1/4*x + 2
these lines will be parallel.
the third line is y = 4x - 5
this line will be perpendicular to the other 2 lines.
