Question 891378: I need some help with putting (-4,0) and (0,1) in slope intercept form. Please I need assistance bad!
Answer by DrBeeee(684)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You said the magic word. Please.
Given two points P1(-4,0) and P2(0,1).
Find
(1) y = mx + b
Use the following equation to get the slope, m.
(2) m = (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) or
(3) m = (0 - 1)/(-4 - 0) or
(4) m = -1/-4 or
(5) m = 1/4
So far we have
(6) y = (1/4)x + b
Now we need to find b. To find b, substitute either P1 or P2 into (6) and solve for b. Using P2 we have
(7) 1 = (1/4)*0 + b or
(8} 1 = 0 + b or
(9) b = 1
Lets use P1 to check the answer.
Is (0 = (1/4)*(-4) + 1)?
Is (0 = -1 + 1)?
Is (0 = 0)? Yes
Answer: y = (1/4)x + 1
Thanks for asking!
