Question 837491: What is the equation of the line whose x-intercept is -7 and y-intercept is -8 in the form Ax + By = C
x-intercept is -7 when y = 0 (-7,0)
y-intercept is -8 when x = 0 (0,-8)
y = mx + b
y = m-7 + (-8)
0 = m-7 + (-8)
8 = m-7
-8/7 = m
y = -8/7x + (-8)
Ax + By = C : -8/7x + 1y = -8 <--- is that correct?
Is there a 1 in front of y just because a variable cannot be on it's own?
Answer by richard1234(7193) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Correct, except you made a sign error at the very last step, should be (8/7)x + y = -8. You don't need a 1 in front of the y; conventionally, the 1 is left out.
