You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8x – 4y = 16
y = 2x – 4
First get all variables on one side and have the numbers only on the other
8x - 4y = 16
-2x + y = -4
Next multiply your second equation by 4 to get both y opposite of eachother in order to cancel
Now you will have
8x - 4y = 16
-8x + 4y = -16
Which will all cancel and leave you with no real solution

Since we have an equation of y we can substitute 2x-4 into y of the first equation

8x-4%282x-4%29+=+16 substitute 2x-4 into y

8x-+4%2A2x-4%28-4%29+=+16 Distribute

8x-+8x%2B16+=+16 Multiply

16+=+16 Combine like terms. Since this is true for any x, we have an infinite number of solutions (note: having infinite solutions is not the same as having no solutions at all. So even though the previous poster said there were no solutions I'm sure s/he meant there isn't one solution only)
