I don't know what to do with the not equal sign, which lies between the "a" and "0" inside the parenthesis.

Please solve in steps the following equation for my daughter's 7th grade Algebra.
ax=5a(a≠0)

The problem is saying ax = 5a;
and it is saying a is not zero.
------
Since a is not zero you can divide both sides by "a" to get:
x = 5
