Question 776325: Solve the linear equation given the following:
Perpendicular to 2x-12y=4 and passing through the point (-1/2,1)

Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Reaarange 2x - 12y = 4 into
y = mx + c form
y = 1/6x - 1/3
Lines that are perpendicular to
one another have slopes (m) that
multiply together to give - 1
m1 * m2 = -1
Above equation has a slope of 1/6
1/6 * m2 = -1
m2 = -6
Using the equation
y - b = m(x - a) with (-1/2, 1)
a = -1/2, b = 1 and m = -6
y - 1 = -6(x - (-1/2))
y - 1 = -6x - 3
y = -6x - 3 + 1
y = -6x - 2
Hope this helps.
