Question 773321: What is the slope-intercept form of a line passing through (-9, 5) that is parallel to the line 7x - 3y = 12?
Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sort your equation into
y = mx + c form
7x - 3y = 12
-3y = - 7x + 12
3y = 7x - 12
y = 7/3x - 12/3
y = 7/3x - 4
The slope (m) = 7/3
Lines that are parallel to one
another have slopes (m) that equal
one another.
m1 = m2
Using the equation:
y - b = m(x - a) with coords (-9,5)
a = -9, b = 5 and m = 7/3
y - 5 = 7/3(x -(-9))
y - 5 = 7/3x + 9
y = 7/3x + 9 + 5
y = 7/3x + 14
OR
Multiply thro' by 3
3y = 7x + 42
Hope this helps.
