Question 759607: What are the rules for cutting a graph on the Y axis if the distance between 0 and the first tic mark are far apart but the following tic marks are close together? For example I need to graph these points: (0, 17250) (10000,16000) (20000,14750) (30000,13500) (40000,12250) (50000,11000) so I will make the tic marks on the x axis 10,000 between each tic apart starting from 0 but for the Y axis I wanted to make the tic marks 1,250 between each tic mark but if I started at 0 there would be a large gap on the graph between 0 and 11,000 (which is the first amount I need to use to graph those points. So how can I make a graph without the gap on the Y axis?

The spread of values don't seem bad. Label your axes so the viewer knows the difference between graduation marks. Your main labeled marks on the horizontal axis are 10000 each; and you might either choose 1000 OR 1500 OR something as increments between each labeled mark on the vertical axis, just so reading between labeled marks is easier. You will not really want to show a graph to include the actual origin or/of (0,0). You can still find a slope, and obviously still can compute a y intercept, although you already have the datum point for this.
