Question 756637: In Canada, $1 and $2 bills have been replaced by coins. When Marissa returned home from to San Francisco from a trip to Vancouver, she found that she had acquired 37 of these coins with a total value of $51 Canadian. How many each denomination did she have?
Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
$1 coins = x
$2 coins = y
x + y = 37.....1
x + 2y = 51....2
subtract (1) from (2)
y = 14
substitute y = 14
in Eq (1)
x + y = 37
x + 14 = 37
x = 37 - 14
x = 23
Therefore, Marissa had
23 x $1 coins and 14 x $2 coins
$23 + $28 = $51
Hope this helps.
