Question 743583: Please help me solve this word problem:
Joe is a place kicker for his college football team. Last season he kicked 38 times and never missed. Each field goal scored 3 points and each point after a touchdown scored 1 point for a total of 70 points. How many field goals did Joe kick last season?
This is what I have but I'm not sure what step to do next or if I am even setting up the equation correctly.
g= field goals t= points after touchdown
g + t= 38
3g + 1t= 70

This is what I have but I'm not sure what step to do next or if I am even setting up the equation correctly.
g= field goals t= points after touchdown
g + t= 38
3g + 1t= 70
--------------
It's exactly right. Solve the system of equations.
g + t= 38
3g + t= 70
-------------- Subtract
-2g = -32
g = 16 field goals
----
t = 38 - g
t = 22 PAT's
