Question 729854: Please help me with the follwing problem:
Use substitution to solve the linear system. Decide if the system is consistent or inconsistent. If the system is consistent, decide if it is dependent or independent. Explain your answer using words, symbols, or both.
x+4y=-1
2x-y=7
also;
3x-y=15
6x-2y=2
Thank you!

Use substitution to solve the linear system. Decide if the system is consistent or inconsistent. If the system is consistent, decide if it is dependent or independent. Explain your answer using words, symbols, or both.
x+4y=-1
2x-y=7 --> y = 2x-7
Sub for y in the 1st equation
x + 4(2x-7) = -1
You can finish it.
=============
also;
3x-y=15
6x-2y=2 ==> 3x-y=1
-------
3x-y = 15 and = 1 --> inconsistent.
If you graph them they're parallel lines.
No intersection, no solution.
