addition of linear equation
8x-4y=16
4x+5y=22
This question is from textbook algebra
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1st: 8x-4y=16
2nd: 4x+5y=22
------------
Multiply 2nd by 2 to get:
3rd: 8x+10y = 44
------
Subtract 1st from 3rd to get:
4th: 14y=28
y=2
Substitute that into 2nd (or 1st) to solve for "x":
4x+5*2 = 22
4x = 12
x=3
========
Check the answer is 1st (or 2nd):
8x-4y=16
8*3-4*2=16
24-8=16
16=16
That checks.
