Question 71127: How do you solve a system using the addition method
x+3(y-1)=11
2(x-y)+8y=28

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the addition method
x+3(y-1)=11
2(x-y)+8y=28
-------------------------------
Rewrite the two equations:
1st: x+3y = 14
2nd: 2x+6y= 28
-------------------
Multiply the 1st equation by 2 to get:
3rd: 2x+6y = 28
-------------
As you see the two equations are the same or "dependent".
The soltion set is the set of all points on the line 2x+3y=14
------------
