Question 687285: I don't know how to work out and graph the following:
-contains the point (-3,-8) and is perpendicular to y = -3/4x + 6
I tried this but I tried graphing it and it didn't work out:
y-(-8)=4/3(x-(-3)) which converts to y+8=4/3x+12/3 or 4 (I think) which then converts to y=4/3x-4 (I think)
P.S. -3/4 means negative three over four. And 4/3 means four over three. Like, in fraction form.

work out and graph the following:
-contains the point (-3,-8) and is perpendicular to y = -3/4x + 6
:
Find the slope (m2) of the perpendicular line. The relationship between
perpendicular lines is m1*m2 = -1; m1 = -3/4, find m2
*m2 = -1
multiply both sides by -, results
m2 = +
:
Find the perpendicular line using the point/slope form: y - y1 = m(x-x1)
where:
x1 = -3; y1 = -8, m = 4/3
y - (-8) = (x - (-3))
y + 8 = (x + 3)
y + 8 = x + 4
y = x + 4 - 8
y = x - 4
:
Plot these two equations
y = x - 4
Table
x | y
-------
0 |-4
6 |+4
9 |+8
