Question 681403: My math problem is this: Tell whether the graphs of the two equations are parallel lines. Explain your reasoning.
y=5x-7, 5x+y=7
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=5x-7,
.
.
5x+y=7
re write in slope intercept form
y=-5x+7
compare the equations with the equation y=mx+b where m is the slope.
The slopes of the two lines are 5 & -5.
They are not equal.
Hence the lines are not parallel.
Parallel lines have equal slopes.
