Question 673925: Hi. I need a simple way to find the x and y intercepts of the line that passes through the given points.
(-6,4) (3,-5)
(-5,-5) (4,-2)
(-7,6) (-4,11)
(-2,8) (4,2)
(3,-8) (-4,13)
(5,0.4) (-1,-2)
Thanks! My math is due tomorrow. Please help and explain! My math teaher did not teach this!!!!!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. Find Slope: %28y1-y2%29%2F%28x1-x2%29
2. Use one point set and slope in the point slope formula: y-y1=m%28x-x1%29
3. b is the y -intercept in the y = mx+b format
4. Set y = 0 and solve for x and the x intercept is where y = 0
...
(-6, 4) (3, -5)
1. slope = %284--5%29%2F%28-6-3%29+=+%289%2F-9%29+=+-1
2. y-4 = -1(x--6)
y-4 = -x - 6
y = -x - 6 + 4
3. y = -x - 2 : linear equation with y intercept of -2 or (0, -2)
4. 0 = -x - 2
x = -2 , so (-2, 0) is the x intercept
...
(-5,-5) (4,-2)
1. slope %28-5--2%29%2F%28-5-4%29+=+-3%2F-9+=+1%2F3
2. y - - 5 = 1%2F3(x--5)
y + 5 = %281%2F3%29x+%2B+%281%2F3%295
y = %281%2F3%29x+%2B+5%2F3+-+5
y = %281%2F3%29x+%2B+5%2F3+-+5%283%2F3%29
3. y = %281%2F3%29x+-+10%2F3 : linear equation with y intercept of 10%2F3%29 or (0, 10%2F3)
4. 0 = %281%2F3%29x+-+10%2F3
10%2F3+=+%281%2F3%29x
10 = x, so (10, 0) is the x intercept
...
And so on for the remainder of the points.
