Question 670167: How do I solve and check this linear equation :
5x-3+6(x+1)= -2x+5

Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Starting with
5x - 3 + 6(x+1) = -2x+5
...
Distribute the 6
5x - 3 + 6x + 6 = -2x + 5
Combine like terms
11x + 3 = -2x + 5
11x + 2x = 5 - 3
...
13x = 2

...
Check
5(2/13) - 3 + 6((2/13)+1) = -2(2/13) + 5
...
10/13 - 3 + (90/13) = 10/13 - 39/13 + 90/13 = 61/13
-4/13 + 5 = -4/13 + 65/13 = `61/13
