Question 659748: The two leading pizza chains in the United States are Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza. In July 2009, Pizza Hut had 6118 locations than Domino's, and together the two chains had 23,400 locations. How many locations did each chain have?
Please help.
Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = Pizza Hut
y = Domino's
x = 6118 +/- y (your question stated "had 6118 locations than Domino's" is it more or less?)
x + y = 23,400
Substitute x in the second equation
6118 +/- y + y = 23400 (determine if you are adding or subtracting, see above)
Solve for y by adding like terms.
Plug y back into the first equation and solve for x.
