Question 637127: Each of the following is a system of equations that is NOT linear. Each is linear in form because an appropriate substitution (say 'u' for 1/x and 'v' for 1/y) yields a linear system.
Solve for the new variable, and then solve for the original variable.
2/x + 1/y = 0
5/x + 2/y = -5
I would highly appreciate it if you could help.

Hi,
2/x + 1/y = 0
5/x + 2/y = -5
'u' = 1/x and 'v' = 1/y ****
2u + v = 0 |multiplying thru by -2 to eliminate the v variable
5u + 2v = -5
u = -5 and v = 10
x = 1/-5 and v = 1/10
and...
