solve 3x + 5 = 12

3x + 5 = 12
Subtract 5 from each side of the equation.
3x + 5 - 5 = 12 - 5
Combine like terms:
5 - 5 = 0
12 - 5 = 7
Therefore:
3x = 7
Divide each side by 3
3x/3 = 7/3
x = 7/3
