The total sales of a company in 2008 were $45,000.
In 2011,it grew to $84,000.
Use x as the number of years since 2000 and y as the total sales.
What is the rate of change(slope) in the total sales?
Write an equation in both point-slope form and slope- intercept form modeling the company's sales.
:
Find the slope using the slope formula: m =
Assign the values as follows
x1=8, y1=45000; (2008, yrs since 2000)
x2=11,y2=84000; (2011, yrs since 2000)
m = = = 13000 is the slope (rate of change is $13000 per yr)
:
The point-slope formula: y - y1 = m(x- x1)
y - 45000 = 13000(x - 8)
y - 45000 = 13000x - 104000
y = 13000x - 104000 + 45000
y = 13000x - 59000, the slope intercept form
