-2(4x+5)=3(x+4) need to see exactly how you solve this problem.
:
multiply what's inside the brackets
-8x - 10 = 3x + 12
;
add 8x to both sides
-10 = 3x + 8x + 12
:
subtract 12 from both sides, add the x's
-10 - 12 = 11x
-22 = 11x
:
Divide both sides by 11
x =
x = -2
:
:
Check solution in original equation
-2(4x+5)=3(x+4)
replace x with -2
-2(4(-2) + 5) = 3(-2 + 4)
-2(-8+5) = 3(2)
-2(-3) = 6
6 = 6; confirms our solution of x=-2
