Question 62344: an airplane flew for 6 hours with a tailwind of 60 km/h. the return flight against the same wind took 8 hours. what is the speed of the airplane in still air??? this one i think i'm gonna need a system of equations to figure it out and i wanna use x and y....ummmmmm.....help plz!
Answer by bryanpark428(4)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
well, you only need one variable. you make a equation like this:
6/60=8/X
then you cross multiply and you'll get 6X=480.
then you divide 6 to each side then your answer should be X=80.
that means the plane's speed that was coming back was 80 m/hr.
