Question 621180: Find the equation for the line that passes through the point (3,5), and that is parallel to the line with the equation (y-1=-2/3(x-1).
Note: -2/3 is suppose to be in fraction form, so it's -2 OVER 3. NOT DIVIDED
thanks,

Find the equation for the line that passes through the point (3,5), and that is parallel to the line with the equation (y-1=-2/3(x-1).
.
Note: a fraction (a/b) can be considered as "a divided by b".
.
Slope of:
y-1=-2/3(x-1)
is -2/3
.
A line parallel will have the same slope.
So, now we have:
m (slope) is -2/3
and one point (3,5)
.
Plug into "point-slope" form:
y - y1 = m(x -x1)
y - 5 = (-2/3)(x - 3)
y - 5 = (-2/3)x - (-2/3)3
y - 5 = (-2/3)x - (-2)
y - 5 = (-2/3)x + 2
y = (-2/3)x + 7 (this is what they're looking for in "slope-intercept" form)
