Question 612990: how to graph x/8- y/3=1? Please help me
Answer by nerdybill(7384)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
how to graph x/8- y/3=1?
.
you could rearrange into the "slope-intercept" form of:
y = mx + b
this way, you can easily identify the slope (m) and the y-intercept at (0,b)
.
x/8- y/3=1
-y/3=-x/8+1
y/3=x/8-1
y = (3/8)x-3
.
so, we immediately see that the
y-intercept is at (0,-3)
and the
slope is 3/8
.
Solved by pluggable solver: DESCRIBE a linear EQUATION: slope, intercepts, etc
Equation describes a sloping line. For any
equation ax+by+c = 0, slope is .
  • X intercept is found by setting y to 0: ax+by=c becomes ax=c. that means that x = c/a. 1/0.125 = 8.
  • Y intercept is found by setting x to 0: the equation becomes by=c, and therefore y = c/b. Y intercept is 1/-0.333333333333333 = -3.
  • Slope is -0.125/-0.333333333333333 = 0.375.
  • Equation in slope-intercept form: y=0.375*x+-3.
