Question 61098: can some one help me solve and explain this problem?
4x + 8 = –4

Answer by josmiceli(19441)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4x + 8 = –4
Read it like this:
"If I add 8 to 4 times an unknown quantity, the answer is -4."
It is solve with rules of algebra which say: Anything I do to
one side of an equation, I must do to the other side
First, subtract 8 from both sides
4x + 8 - 8 = -4 -8
do the subtraction
4x = -12
divide both sides by 4

do the division
this is the solution
You can check it by putting it back into equation
4*(-3) + 8 = -4
-12 + 8 = -4
-4 = -4
checks OK
