Find the equation of the line that passes throught the points(-2,1)&(4,-8)

Find the slope, m
m = diffy/diffx = (1 - (-8))/(-2 - 4) = 9/-6
m = -3/2
----------
Use y = mx + b and either point to find b, the y-intercept
-8 = (-3/2)*4 + b
b = -8 + 6
b = -2
------
The eqn is y = mx + b
y = (-3/2)x - 2
or, 3x + 2y = -4
------------------
