Question 58484: L has y-intercept (0,2) and is perpendicular to the line with equation 2x - 3y = 6
Answer by funmath(2933)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L has y-intercept (0,2) and is perpendicular to the line with equation 2x - 3y = 6
:
Put the equation of the line that they gave you in slope intercept form: , m=slope and (0,b) is the y-intercept.
2x-3y=6
-2x+2x-3y=-2x+6
-3y=-2x+6

The slope of this line is m=2/3 and perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of each other so change the sign and flip it over and you have the slope of a perpendicular line: m=-3/2
They gave you the y-intercept to go through with your perpendicular line: (0,b)=(0,2)
Plug m=-3/2 and b=2 into y=mx+b
