The leading coefficient would be the constant number multiplied to the variable with the highest power. In the above example, the term -4x^2 has the variable with the highest power (power of 2). Just because the -4 is multiplied to the variable with the highest power in the expression, -4 is the leading coefficient.
WARNING: They will trick you by NOT putting the term with the highest power first (like the example). Many would say that the leading coefficient is the first number written in the expression.
