how do you graph f(x) = 3x - 1?
f(x)=y on the rectangular cartesian graph.
Let x=0 and solve for y.
y=3(0)-1
y=-1
Plot (0,-1)
Let x=1 and solve for y.
y=3(1)-1
y=3-1
y=2
Plot (1,2)
Connect the dots and you have a line that looks like:
