Question 557825: Find an equation of the line L that passes through the point (4,-15) and satisfies the given condition.
L is perpendicular to the line 6x + 2y = -6.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
6 x + 2 y = -6
Find the slope of this line
2 y = -6 x -6
Divide by 2
y = -3 x + -3
Compare this equation with y=mx+b
slope m = -3
The slope of a line perpendicular to the above line will be the negative reciprocal 0.33
m1*m2=-1
m= 1/3 ,point ( 4 , -15 )
Find b by plugging the values of m & the point in
y=mx+b
-15 = 4/3 + b
b= -49/3
m= 1/3
The required equation isy = 1/ 3 x -49/ 3
