The sum of two numbers is 75. The large number is 7
more than 3 times smaller. Find the numbers.

Let the smaller be x

>>...The larger number is 7 more than 3 times smaller...<<

So the larger number is (3x + 7)

>>...The sum of two numbers is 75...<<

Smaller number + larger number = 75

       x + (3x + 7) = 75

Solve that and get x = 17

So the smaller number is 17 and the larger number is
7 more than 3 times 17, that is, 7 more than 51, or
58.

Checking: 17 + 58 = 75
