2 x + 5 y = 7
Find the slope of this line

5 y = -2 x + 7
Divide by 5
y = - 2/ 5 x + 1.4
Compare this equation with y=mx+b, m= slope & b= y intercept
slope m = - 2/5

The slope of a line perpendicular to the above line will be the negative reciprocal 2.5
m1*m2=-1
The slope of the required line will be 2 1/2

m= 5/2 ,point ( 3 , 7 )
Find b by plugging the values of m & the point in
y=mx+b
7 = 7.50 + b
b= -1/2
m= 5/2
The required equation is y = 5/ 2x- 1/ 2
PARALLEL
2 x + 5 y = 7
Find the slope of this line
make y the subject
5 y = -2 x + 7
Divide by 5
y = - 2/5 x + 1.4
Compare this equation with y=mx+b
slope m = - 2/5
The slope of a line parallel to the above line will be the same
The slope of the required line will be - 2/5
m= - 2/5 ,point ( 3 , 7 )
Find b by plugging the values of m & the point in
y=mx+b
7 = -6/ 5 + b
b= 41/5
m= - 2/5
Plug value of the slope and b in y = mx +b
The required equation is=> y = - 2/5 x + 41/ 5
