Question 523706: State whether the graphs of ((x/2)-(y/3))=1 and y=((-2x/3)+4)) are parallel or perpendicular. please show working
Answer by Maths68(1474)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
((x/2)-(y/3))=1 .............(1)
Multiply by 6 both sides of the equation
3x-2y=6
-2y=-3x+6
Divide by -2 both sides
-2y/-2=(-3x+6)/-2
y=3x/2-6/2
y=3x/2-3
Above equation is the equation of straight line
Slope = 3/2 and Y-intercept = -3
y=((-2x/3)+4))
y=-2x/3+4
Above equation is the equation of straight line
Slope = -2/3 and Y-intercept = 4
Graphs are perpendicular,
When two lines are perpendicular Multiplication of their slopes will result in (-1).
=Slope of line one * slope of line two
= 3/2 * -2/3
= -1

Red Line y=3x/2-3
Green line y=-2x/3+4
