Question 518730: I need help finding the variable while I have been given this (5,2) and (x,-2) m=2 m is the slope I am confused on what method to use should I use point slope formula? There is a line through the given points Answer by mananth(16949) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! (5,2) (x,-2)
m=2
2= (-2-2)/(x-5)
2(x-5)=-4
2x-10=-4
2x=6
x=3
Plug value of the slope and point( 5 , 2 ) in
Y = m x + b
2.00 = 10 + b
b= 2 - 10
b= -8
So the equation will be
Y = 2 x -8
