Question 511550: I'm totally lost on this and would like someone to please explain it to me in simple terms as possible. The question is "Write a slope-intercept equation of the line whose graph is described. Parallel to the graph of 2x-y=1, y intercept (0,3)". There was no graph to go with this. Thank you!

Okay...They need you to find the second equation which parallel with the given line and pass through point (0,3).
Two lines are parallel when they have the same slope.
Since the given line slope is:
2x - y = 1
-y = -2x + 1
y = 2x - 1
Thus the given line slope is m = 2. Thus the new line must have the same slope
m = 2.
Now we apply the point-slope formula to write the new equation:
y - yo = m(x - xo)
y - 3 = 2(x - 0)
y - 3 = 2x
y = 2x + 3 which is the line that you needed.
