Question 506963: Find the equation of the line parallel to -3 x - 12 y = -16 . and passing through the point ( -9 , 6 ).
The equation of the line is y =

Anything parallel to -3x-12y = -16 is of the form -3x-12y = C where C is any number

Since the line passes through the point ( -9 , 6 ), we know that x = -9 and y = 6

So plug this info in to solve for C

-3x-12y = C

-3(-9)-12(6) = C

27 - 72 = C

-45 = C

C = -45

So the equation of the parallel line is -3x - 12y = -45
