Remember that much of our graphing, in particular the Cartesian Coordinate System is attributed to the French mathematician Rene Descartes--in fact, Cartesian comes from the word "DeCARTES", right? Well, the m that we use for slope comes from the French word "montez" which means to go up, as in mount up, or mountain.
I asked that question for 25 years before I finally found someone who could tell me!!
