Question 492637: Find and equation of the line through (-5,7) perpendicular to 5x-4y=10
Answer by mananth(16949)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5 x -4 y = 10
Find the slope of this line

-4 y = -5 x + 10
Divide by -4
y = 1.250 x + -2.5
Compare this equation with y=mx+b
slope m =5/4

The slope of a line perpendicular to the above line will be the negative reciprocal -4/5
m1*m2=-1
m= - 4/5 ,point ( -5 , 7 )
Find b by plugging the values of m & the point in
y=mx+b
7 = 4.00 + b
b= 3
m= - 4/5
The required equation is y =- 4/ 5 x + 3
