Question 4854: Fenton Rent-A-Truck charges $32.85 plus $.49 per mile for a certain truck. Handy Truck Rents charges $31.95 plus $.48 for the same truck. For what mileage is the cost the same?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = number of miles traveled.
Cost for Fenton = .49x + 32.85
Cost for Handy = .48x + 31.95

Price is the same, when these are equal:
.49x + 32.85 = .48x + 31.95

Solve for x! BUT WAIT!! Handy is cheaper in their initial cost AND also in cost per mile. Therefore they will be cheaper no matter how many miles. If you solve the equation above, you will have a negative answer, which means that there is NO SOLUTION. Is this a trick question, or did you copy it wrong??
