Question 479247: find the equation of the line that passes through the points (3,1) and (5,-2). write your answer in standard form.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x1 y1 x2 y2
3 1 5 -2
slope m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
( -2 - 1 )/( 5 - 3 )
( -3 / 2 )
m= -1.50
Plug value of the slope and point ( 3 , 1 ) in
Y = m x + b
1.00 = -4.5 + b
b= 1 -4.5
b= 5.5
So the equation will be
Y = -1.5 x + 5.5
