Question 468704: A problem in my textbook says:
Solve .25x + .10(x-3) = .05(x+18)
The book says to multiply both sides by 100. The result is 25x + 10(x-3) = 5(x+18). How did they get from the original equation to the result? I'm just unsure why (x-3) and (x+18) are unchanged. I'm also not sure how order of operations fits these steps.
Answer by rfer(16322) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
By multipling by 100 you remove the decimals.
Makes for easier work.
The answer =4
You will get the same answer if you use the decimals or multiply by 100, so do whichever is easiest for you.
Try it both ways.
