Find the slope, if it exists:
y=-8x+4
---
The slope is the change in y when x increases by 1.
---
f(0) = 4
f(1) = -8+4 = -4
----
The slope = change in y = -8

Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
equation is y = -8x + 4
equation is in slope intercept form of y = mx + b
m is the slope and b is the y intercept
that makes the slope in your equation equal to -8 and the y intercept in your equation equal to 4.
a graph of your equation is shown below:
you can see that the y intercept is 4.
this is the value of y when x = 0.
to determine whether the slope is accurate, look at the graph when x = 0 and when
y = 0.
you may not be able to see the numbers clearly from the graph, so solve the equation for the values you can't see.
when x = 0, y = 4 (that's the y intercept we looked at earlier).
when y = 0, the equation becomes 0 = -8x + 4
add x to both sides of this equation to get 8x = 4
divide both sides of this equation by 8 to get x = 1/2
so we have 2 points.
they are:
x1 = 0, y1 = 4
and:
x2 = 1/2, y2 = 0
the slope of the equation of a line is (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
based on the points that we have, this equation becomes (0 - 4) / (1/2 - 0) which becomes (-4) / (1/2) which becomes -8.
the slope is -8 confirming the slope intercept form of the equation gave us the right answer.
