Question 464002: Write an equation of the line then graph the line with a slope of -5 and y-intercept (0,3).
The equation I came up with is y=-5x+3. Is this correct?
Graph:
I know where to plot the y-intercept of (0,3) but not sure how to graph the slope of -5. Would it be -5/1 (Rise/Run) and if so, would it be 5 down and 1 to the right?

Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
slope = -5 {or -5/1 in terms of rise over run}
y-intercept = 3

Slope-intercept form is y = mx + b
m is the slope {rise over run}
b is the y-intercept {where the line crosses the y-axis}

y = -5x + 3 is the equation of the line

To graph:
- put a point on 3, on the y-axis
- from there, since the slope is -5/1, go down 5 and to the right 1 and put another point
- draw a line through the two points
