Wildcat Oil Company has two refineries, one located in Houston and the other in Tulsa, which produce a total of 1,600,000 gallons of petroleum per year. The Houston refinery ships 60% of its petroleum to the chicago gas company, while the Tulsa refinery ships 30% of it petroleum to the same chicago gas company. Assume that over the year, the Chicago gas company received 690,000 gallons of petroleum. How many gallons of petroleum were produced at each of Wildcat's refineries?

Let's mark some variables:

H - petroleum produced in Houston refinery
T - petroleum produced in Tulsa refinery
C - petroleum received by Chicago gas company
W - total petroleum of WildCat Oil Company

Now we have that 60%=60/100 of Houston and 40%=40/100 of Tulsa petroleum makes 690,000 gallons Chicago received:

H*60/100 + T*30/100 = 690000

We laso have that total WildCat production consists of productions from Houston and Tulsa:

We have two equations with two variables:
H*60/100 + T*30/100 = 690,000, multiply by 100
H+T=1,600,000

H+T=1,600,000, solve by H -> H=1600000-T

Substitute H in first equation:
60(1,600,000-T)+30T=69,000,000
96,000,000-60T+30T=69,000,000
