Question 45231: graphing 3x -4y = 12 by using the slope and y intercept.
a sample equation reads 2x - 3y = 6
3y = -2x + 6
y = 2/3x - 2 uncertain as to how that was broken down that way. the y intercept = (0,-2) and m(slope) = 2/3.
I'f I can decifer the pattern in the sample I just may be able to catch on.

Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
THE STANDARDS FORMULA FOR A LINE IS Y=mX+b where X & Y ARE TWO POINTS THROUGH WHICH THE LINE PASSES THROUGH. IN YOUR CASE THE FORMULA FOR THIS LINE IS Y=2/3X-2
m IS THE VALUE OF THE SLOPE OF THE LINE. b IS THE Y INTERCEPT VALUE.
TO FIND THE AT LEAST TWO POINTS OF THIS LINE SET X=0 AND SOLVE FOR Y. THEN SET Y=0 AND SOLVE FOR X.
THUS YOU GET 0=2/3X-2 OR 2/3X=2 OR X=2*3/2 OR X=3 (3,0)
Y=2/3*0-2 OR Y=0-2 OR Y=-2 (0,-2)
