Question 452144: Find the slope and the y-intercept of the line.
7x = 5y+40
I'm confused because the other examples don't have the equals sign in this place. So, I'm not sure how to break up the equation.

Find the slope and the y-intercept of the line.
7x = 5y + 40
:
Put the equation into the slope/intercept form (y = mx + b)
7x = 5y + 40
:
subtract 5y from both sides
7x - 5y = 40
:
subtract 7x from both sides
-5y = -7x + 40
:
y has to be positive, multiply both sides by -1
5y = 7x - 40
:
y has to have a coefficient of 1, divide both sides 5
y = x -
y = x - 8
we can see the slope (m) is , the y-intercept (b) is -8
