Question 438039: I,m haveing problems solving this compound inequality. Please explaine steps.
5>-4x+4 and 7< or equal to -4x+2. Thank you

Answer by lwsshak3(11628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5>-4x+4 and 7< or equal to -4x+2
..
5>-4x+4
add -4 to both sides
1>-4x
divide both sides by 4
1/4>-x
multiply both sides by -1 and switch inequality sign
-1/4 or
x>-1/4
..
7<=-4x+2
add-2 to both sides
5<=-4x
divide both sides by 4
5/4<=-x
multiply both sides by -1 and switch inequality sign
-5/4>=x
or
x<=-5/4
ans:
Since this is a compound inequality, in interval notation would be written:
(-infinity,-5/4] U (-1/4, infinity)
